pia brodnikPia Brodnik soprano, dedicated her creative musical life performing songs, big oratorio pieces and operas throughout her native Slovenia, in Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Romania, Germany, Canada and USA. She appeared together with renowed artists, such as bass-baritone Marcos Fink, pianist Marina Horak and Charles Spencer, conductors Anton Nanut, Dejan Savić, Predrag Gosta, Claude Villaret, Lior Shambadal, Wolfgang Schmid, John Axelrod, with orchestras, such as The London Symphony Orchestra, National Theatre Orchestra Belgrade, Orchestra of Narodno Divadlo Opava Czech, The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica Veneto, Troupe Romande Orchestra Geneve and many others.

She recorded many solo CDs with songs by Frederic Chopin, Henri Duparc, Benjamin Ipavec, Anton Lajovic, Sacred songs, Slovenian folk songs, all major arias from all Puccini operas and contemporary Slovenian opera The Name on the Tip of the Tongue by Mitja V. Smrekar. Furthermore, a number of solo recordings of arias by Wolfgang A. Mozart, Charles Gounod and songs by Ernest Chausson can be found in the archives of Radio and Television of Slovenia. She also premiered or recorded numerous pieces of major Slovenian composers such as Slavko Osterc, Pavel Šivic, Alojz Ajdič, Maks Strmčnik, Štefan Mauri, Zeqirja Ballata, Tomaž Svete, Jakob Jež, Blaženka Arnič, Tomaž Habe, Igor Dekleva, Hugolin Sattner, Slavko Avsenik jr. and others.

Pia Brodnik is full-time professor of voice at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana. She was Head of Voice department for almost ten years. She wrote all courses for the Bologna curriculum for voice studies and courses in vocal technique. She is a founding member of the Slovenian Association of Teachers of Singing, a member of the European Voice Teachers Association as well as the American National Association of Teachers of Singing. She conducts seminars, summer schools and writes articles on singing technique and voice repertoire. She is a regular member of the jury at national and international singing competitions. Her students are winners of many national and international competitions and are soloist at opera houses home and abroad (Martin Sušnik, Nina Dominko, Klementina Savnik, Štefica Stipančević, Klemen Torkar, Inez Osina, Maja Ceglar, Anton Habjan), or members of different professional choirs as well as teachers of singing.

Pia Brodnik is a graduate of voice from Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada and music pedagogy from Academy of Music University of Ljubljana. Her most important voice mentors were dr. David Falk and maestro Richard Miller.
